When I was a child I used to watch The Witches (1990) many times, because I loved the movie and it was supposed to be my favorite one so far。 Unfortunately, I didn’t remember almost anything about the story, except one scene, which is like a vivid memory indeed – I remember saying to myself: “It’s just a movie, don’t be scared” while I was seeing the witches eating the soup around the long table and suddenly… sorry, I’m getting scared again。 The Witches by Roald Dahl is definitely a book that re When I was a child I used to watch The Witches (1990) many times, because I loved the movie and it was supposed to be my favorite one so far。 Unfortunately, I didn’t remember almost anything about the story, except one scene, which is like a vivid memory indeed – I remember saying to myself: “It’s just a movie, don’t be scared” while I was seeing the witches eating the soup around the long table and suddenly… sorry, I’m getting scared again。 The Witches by Roald Dahl is definitely a book that reminds me of my childhood, and whose reading was a delightful and lovely experience, despite my previous experience with the movie。Honestly, I enjoyed almost everything inside this novel; some characters such as the boy and his grandmother were lovable and charming。 On the other hand, The Grand High Witch was a horrible, wicked “person”, but at the same time, I have to admit that she was my favorite character in the story。The only chapters that I didn’t really enjoy so much were the last two ones, perhaps I felt this part as though it was not the best ending for the story; it also was a little bit disappointing and underwhelming。 Even so, this wasn’t a big problem for me because I certainly loved the way the author introduced us to the witches and how they take part in the novel。 Ultimately, I believe Quentin Blake’s work, whose illustrations are quite adorable and beautiful, is always necessary in a Roald Dahl book because it’s a perfect complement and it helps you to be fond of the story。 Bravo! “It doesn't matter who you are or what you look like so long as somebody loves you。” 。。。more

Overall Rating: 4/5Short Chapter Rating: 4/5I really enjoyed reading this book with my kids (7 yr old and 6 yr old)。 It was a unique story and it kept the kids interested。 We have been reading a lot of Roald Dahl, and so far he has not disappointed us。 The concept of the witches and their disguises was funny and the kids got a kick out of it, and they often talk about their feet or hair, etc。 in random conversations。 In my eyes, that means it was entertaining! Is this book for you?

Questions looking back, but this, in classic Roald Dahl fashion, was very funny, kinda dark for kids, and totally worth possible trauma。

Good book, but more for kids than teens。 Too easy for native English speakers anyway。 I read them in primary school for class。

I don't really think this will help in real life because I don't believe in witches。 But I do believe in black magic (I think。。。)。 Because my dad told me that his friend has a neighbour that practises black magic。 But, whatever。 Isn't a person who practises magic a witch though?

I bloomin’ loved this book as a child and I still do。 There’s some parts that I read and though ‘ooooh that hasn’t aged well’ but still a brilliant book!!

As much as I enjoy the style of Road Dahl, I don’t know if I can get 100% behind this book。 The ending felt too unfinished。 It honestly felt a little depressing。 Nonetheless, the story is respectfully entertaining。

Dahl is truly a magical writer, inviting readers into his version of the world。 In The Witches, we meet an unnamed, young boy (our narrator) and his Norwegian grandmother who cares for him, and we learn very early in the book that he must be careful of witches。 They hide among us, she says, and she gives different signs for her grandson to look for。 Because it is not long before he encounters his first witch -- and then, unfortunately, witches by the dozens, with very negative consequences。 This Dahl is truly a magical writer, inviting readers into his version of the world。 In The Witches, we meet an unnamed, young boy (our narrator) and his Norwegian grandmother who cares for him, and we learn very early in the book that he must be careful of witches。 They hide among us, she says, and she gives different signs for her grandson to look for。 Because it is not long before he encounters his first witch -- and then, unfortunately, witches by the dozens, with very negative consequences。 This book is quite imaginative and would be great for early- and mid-elementary students。 。。。more

The stories he comes up with are sure to entertain an audience of every age!
